Portrait de
Jacques Monory, 2008
“ I first met Jacques Monory at the Paris Biennale in 1965 where I was presenting a short film.
Looking at his large, and very evocative, blue canvases, I lost myself in his universe of comic books and hyperrealism.
During a dinner some 40 years later, our paths crossed again... ”
The Portrait of Jacques Monory is a diptych, with one side showing a black and white portrait of the painter and the other, his iconic hat. During the shoot, the artist took photographs of Monory in a more relaxed pose, as he leafed through his journal. These images are the material used to create the stop-motion animation embedded in the still-life ribbon of the hat. In the animation, it is blue and grey – a nod to the work of Jacques Monory.
