Portrait of Philippe Starck. Installation view
Portrait de Philippe Starck, 2008
“ I had already photographed Philippe Starck
several times.
I wanted to include this singular figure in my last works.
I created a portrait of him
with Mr. Spock’s ears, and imagined a triptych that would send him travelling through space... ”

The French icon of industrial design is photographed in black and white using a 4x5. In the central portrait,
the artist depicts the designer’s mischievous side, portraying him as a little space devil with the pointed ears so characteristic of pop culture aliens. The artist took his inspiration from Spock, the iconic character from the Star Trek sci-fi series.
The portrait is surrounded
by two panels drawn in pencil : Starck’s famous Juicy Salif citrus press is transformed into a spacecraft, transporting us into
the sci-fi universe of magazines and comic books from the 1930s-1940s.
